How to Invite Friends to ETS2 Convoy
Learn how to invite friends to ETS2 convoy sessions using Steam and in-game tools. Set up sessions, sync mods, and hit the road together.
To invite friends to an ETS2 convoy, launch your session through the official Convoy menu and send invites directly via the Steam Friends overlay (Shift+Tab). Your friends can also search for your session name in the convoy browser or join your active game from their Steam chat window.
Euro Truck Simulator 2 makes multiplayer trucking straightforward with its built-in Convoy mode. Setting up an invite-only run or a password-protected convoy ensures that your friends can take the same jobs, sync traffic, and cruise together without random interruptions.
Setting Up the Convoy Session
Before you send an invite, the host needs to configure the room correctly. Follow these steps to prepare your convoy:
- Launch ETS2 and load your profile.
- In the main menu or while driving, open the Convoy menu (press Esc and click on the Convoy icon).
- Click on Host Convoy at the bottom of the screen.
- Enter a clear session name so your friends recognize it.
- Set a password if you want to keep the session private for your group.
- Adjust your player limit according to your needs.
- Check the boxes for Steam friends visibility if you want them to see your session immediately.
Once you confirm the settings, you spawn into the world as the session host.
How to Send Invites to Friends
There are two main ways to bring your friends into the session once you are in the driver's seat:
Method 1: Steam Overlay (Direct Invite)
This is the fastest method. While your session is running:
- Press Shift + Tab to bring up the Steam Overlay.
- Open your Friends List.
- Right-click on the friend you want to invite.
- Select Invite to Game.
Your friend will receive a chat notification. Clicking Join Game in their chat window will automatically launch their convoy connection, ask for the password if one is set, and place their truck into your session.
Method 2: In-Game Convoy Browser
If the Steam overlay is disabled or unresponsive, your friends can join manually:
- Have your friends open their Convoy menu.
- Tell them to use the search filter at the top of the browser.
- Check the Friends Only or Password Protected filters.
- Type your session name into the search bar.
- Select the session, click Join, and enter the password.
Handling Mods and DLC Synchronization
Official Convoy mode supports Steam Workshop mods and local modifications. However, mismatches can prevent friends from accepting your invite.
- DLC Compatibility: Players without map DLCs can still join sessions hosted in base map areas, but they cannot enter regions they do not own. If the host drives in a DLC area, non-DLC owners will be blocked from that route.
- Mod Matching: When a player joins a modded convoy, ETS2 checks the active mod list. If the host uses Workshop mods, the game prompts the joining player to download the missing files automatically. If local, non-Workshop mods are missing or out of order, the connection will fail.
To keep invites hassle-free, stick to Steam Workshop items or verify that all convoy members share the exact same mod versions and load order.
TruckersMP: How Invites Differ
If you prefer massive multiplayer servers on TruckersMP, the invite mechanic works differently. TruckersMP does not use Steam invites or a private convoy host system.
Instead, drivers meet by coordinating outside the game. You pick a server, decide on a meeting point (such as a specific company yard or service station in a city), and line up your trucks. You can use external dispatch tools or the TruckersMP job sharing feature to sync freights, but there is no direct "invite to room" button. For small private groups with AI traffic, stick to the official in-game Convoy mode.
